Stormy Arkana – very sweet, very neglected little tzu girl
Stormy is an 8 or 9 years old female shih tzu. She was heading for the animal shelter when we were asked to take her in. Heaven knows we don’t need any more dogs and are barely keeping our heads above water with the ones we have, but we couldn’t see letting her head toward a shelter.
Here is her foster mom’s initial impression:
Based on her initial medical exam and my interaction with her, the vet and I agree those years must have been very long and painful for her. She touched my heart with her needs. No animal should spend a lifetime in a state of neglect. I cannot change what took place in her past, but I want to assure Stormy a happy and healthy future. She has some medical issues that we must address before she can move on to the good part of her life. Her little teeth have a thick build up of plaque, her gums are inflamed and tender. The vet said they must be cleaned and she will likely lose several teeth during her dental cleaning.
Stormy needs to be spayed, so she will never be forced to have puppies again. I truly believe that she has spent her life as a breeder, locked in a cage with minimal human contact and little socialization with other dogs. She is very timid and unsure of what’s up with me and all the attention I want to give her. This sweet little lady gets so excited when I spend time with her, she jumps and wags and barks; but she is too timid to come any closer than the tips of my fingers. Each day, she is more delighted to have love and attention. With a little more time and patience, she should become a perfect, calm and quiet little companion for a very lucky family.
Apparently, Stormy had an eye injury in the past that went untreated As a result, her left eye will barely open and the eyeball is shrunken and useless. In this untreated condition, I have to clean the opening to prevent irritation and infection. Stormy was initially deprived of medical care for this eye, but we can help her now. Our vet has estimated $125-$250 to remove this diseased eye. This along with her normal vetting, will put her total need around $650.
