And you all came through for this one too.  Thanks to Jill, new/old foster mom who offered to foster him.  And, guess what – NO HEARTWORMS on this one either.  I’m shocked!!  YEAH.   Another that should be ready in two-three weeks.  APPLY HERE.

Say hello to Tiny Tim Harris! Oh boy, what a cutie!

Ok, well he’s not so cute now.  Better pictures coming.  He was neutered today, bloodwork great, and NO HEARTWORMS!!!  Oh, how will we deal with a dog without heartworms.  We have so many that do have heartworms.  And, although the shelter thought he was older – like ten – our vet said no way.  He’s perhaps 2-3 years old.  Clean teeth!  He should be ready for adoption in about three weeks.  APPLY HERE.

Go Tiny Tim.

Say hello to Eyeore Collins – adorable 16 month old shih tzu boy!!

Thank you all!  Turns out this boy is just a baby – 16 months old, according to the paperwork his owner turned in to the shelter with him.  New pictures will be posted soon, after he’s cleaned up.  Right now, he’s hanging out at the vet for vetting.  Huge thanks to new foster mom Stephanie Jones for so generously offering to foster him!  Here is the sound byte from Maureen, who picked him up and took him to the vet:

Oh my goodness this is a sweetie pie! He just rolls over for belly rubs!  If he didn’t smell so terrible you would just hug him to death. Very matted and has very “wet” eyes.
Can’t really see them very well though. For a dog rescued from deplorable conditions, you would think he would be grouchy; he is exactly the opposite, happy, happy, happy
And grateful, he is a kisser.  There shouldn’t be a problem finding a home for this one.He comes with papers from a vet (and the former owner) that says he was born on 05/08/06 makinG him the cutest 16 month old in the world. I am so glad we got him, he is a doll.
Can’t wait to see him cleaned up.

Desperately needing foster homes!! Homeless Tzus and Lhasas waiting at the shelters!!

Posted in New Dogs - September 2007 at 9:02 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

UPDATED:  3:30 pm Tuesday… SEE BELOW

We’re way overloaded.  We were way overloaded when we took in the ones from last week.  I just cannot believe all of these dogs are in trouble TODAY.  Without more foster homes, we have no where to put these dogs.  With funds, we cannot vet them.  Please, if you’ve ever considered fostering, even for just a few weeks, NOW is the time.  I know you will tell me that I need to just stop, but darn it, I just cannot allow these dogs to die without trying to get help.

CollinCounty-EaGore.jpg

SOON TO BE A LONE STAR DOG – EYEORE COLLINS – FOSTER HOME FOUND!  THANKS STEPHANIE JONES.

Now we just need funds for Eyeore’s vetting.  If you think you can help, please go HERE for paypal or go HERE to send a check(please indicate Eyeore Collins).

Cute little boy – just over one year old.   Somehow, his owner became homeless and he was dumped at the AC.  His fur is stained yellow from living in a kennel, but two AC attendants say he is one sweetie boy.

RESCUED TUESDAY BY RICHARDSON HUMANE SOCIETY!!  YIPEE

This adorable little boy was left at the shelter by a good samaritan who got him from some people that had him tied to a tree.  What??  Shih tzu are not supposed to be TIED TO A TREE!!  HELP.  The message we got about him today said “LAST CHANCE.”  We MUST KNOW by tomorrow.  .

This sweet looking senior gal was yet another left at a shelter in the DFW area.  Sweet, tiny classic black and white.  She’s 8 years old so really, really needs a forever home immediately.  If you want to adopt her, email me immediately.  She is another that has no more time left at the shelter.  They need her gone ASAP.

Second song, same verse.  This is another young, adorable little dog – a lhasa – that unfortunately found his way to the animal shelter last weekend.  No one was interested over the weekend so his time is near.

You all know we are total suckers for these dogs.

HCAC-A236831.jpg

THIS LITTLE GUY IS SO SWEET THE SHELTER HAD HIM GROOMED AND WILL TRY TO ADOPT HIM OUT THEMSELVES.  WE WILL FOLLOW UP WITH HIM, THOUGH.

WE NEED YOU! We need foster homes, we need funds to vet them, we desperately need the funds to vet the ones we’ve already brought in.  Like Amy Jo Mansfield(ALL FUNDS IN), Brooke Lufkin(ALMOST COMPLETELY FUNDED!), Liv Grand, Escriva Ranger, Stormy Arkana, Yvonne Burke, Bindie Worth, Augustus Davis, Webster Hills, Isla East.  All of these stories have just been posted on our BLOG.

I cannot promise that we can save any of these specifically, we’ll just save the ones that we have foster homes and/or funds for.  As they come available, we’ll try to get them!

Amy Jo Mansfield – sweet little tzu girl passed over because of warts!!

Posted in New Dogs - September 2007 at 8:58 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

AmyJo2.jpg

Yes, you have it right.  This sweetie little tzu girl was passed over for adoptions at the shelter because of a few warts on her side. She is about 5 or 6 years old and a very sweet little girl. She was out of time at the shelter because she has a growth on her side and nobody wanted to adopt her. I got her yesterday and I am so in love with her. She has kennel cough and needs her vetting and I am just hoping there is nothing really wrong with her.

AmyJoCyst.jpg

We are at a point now, with so many ill dogs lately, that we need to do a fundraiser for each dog as they come in before we can get them vetted. She is such a sweet loving little girl.  About 5 years old.  She’s active and LOVES to snuggle.  She also likes to “be up”.  She gets on the back of the couch and snuggles into my neck and licks my ear and stays right with me wherever I am.  When it was time for bed the first night she was here she followed me into our room and jumped up on the bed and right up on my pillow.  She sat there smiling at me as if to say “I found my spot” and she has been sleeping there every night since.  She is absolutely wonderful!  Unfortunately, she also has a horrible case of heartworms!!  The estimate for her vetting, including removal of that nasty clump of warts is $550.

UPDATE:  3:30 pm, Tuesday – ALL FUNDS ARE IN!!! Thanks Maureen!!

Say hello to Escriva Ranger – lost little shih tzu with heartworms

Posted in Escriva Ranger, New Dogs - September 2007 at 8:55 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

EscrivaRanger1.jpg

This little stray boy waited for months to come into our rescue.  Ok, the story goes like this…a good samaritan found him several months ago.  Cute little boy, matted, full of fleas and sores.  Then, darn, if he didn’t escape from her yard while we were making arrangements to pick him up.  Finally, last week, she found him again – he looked much worse than originally and we took him immediately into the vet.  Good news is that he is sweet and a very cute boy.  Bad news is that he is very high heartworm positive and has every worm out there.  He needs to start his treatment immediately.  His vetting, including the heartworm treatment, treatment for his worms will be close to $400.  HELP!! I promise, we will stop some day soon.  I just keep saying – “if we could only convince the backyard breeders from breeding for ONE year, just ONE year, we could all get caught up!!”  But, until that happens, we will try our hardest to squeeze each and every little dog into the program that we can.  DONATION STATUS AS OF 10 PM:  $60, THANKS ANN ERVIN, IN HONOR OF PETEY AND ANNE SCHWARTZ.  ONLY $350 TO GO FOR THIS ADORABLE CUTIE!

Anyway, as long as we possibly can squeeze one in, we will.  I know we’re too aggressive, I know we take in too many, but look at that face!!  It is NOT his fault that he had lousy owners – who let him go stray and get heartworms.  I want to make it up to him!!

Please help this little man we named after the citizen that saved her, Escriva. If you think you can help, please go HERE for paypal or go HERE to send a check(please indicate Escriva Ranger).

Brooke Lufkin – Heartworm positive and left tied to a thrift store

Posted in Brooke Lufkin, Heartworm Dogs, New Dogs - September 2007 at 10:27 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

BrookeLufkin.JPG

Here’s how it started….

Hi~

I was hoping you would be able to help me. We are a non-profit 501c3 rescue org for cats located in Lufkin TX. This Monday, we had a shih-tzu and her pup dropped at our thrift store. We called our local shelter and they said they would take them if we had them groomed and vaccinated. We took them to the groomers and the groomers fell in love with the puppy (which was not a purebred) and we took the mama shih-tzu to the vet were she received her distemper, parvo, rabies, bordatella vaccinations. She was also dewormed, had advantage treatment and tested for heartworms. She tested positive for heartworms and our shelter will euthanize heartworm positive dogs.I don’t know what to do with her. I have no experience with dogs. The vet said she is very healthy and very social. She is about a year old and a purebred shih-tzu according to the vet. She stands on her back legs and begs, it is really cute. I am at a loss, any help or advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

So, on my way home from my niece’s wedding, I picked up this little girl in Lufkin and and she is now awaiting heartworm treatment.  We need to raise funds of $350 for her treatment.  Is she not a cutie? Please help this little girl we named after the citizen that saved her, Brooke.

UPDATE:  3:30 PM, Tuesday – Donations:  $325 – thanks Brooke Cooley, Ginger Warnick, Debbie Styron in honor of Malaika, Cat Martindale.

Gorgeous Yvonne Burke – beautiful tzu girl with two erupting absesses!

Posted in New Dogs - September 2007, Yvonne Burke at 9:39 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

YvonneBurke-9-8-2007-003asm.jpg

YUK!!  That’s all I can say.  This little sweetie has been waiting at the shelter for us to have a spot open for weeks.  We finally were able to pick her up last week.  The day we got her in, we were doing a fundraising photoshoot at our vet’s office, Stafford Oaks Veterinary Hospital, so took this cute picture of her.  We noticed that she  had a lot of eye discharge caked underneath both eyes, but really didn’t think anything of it.  A lot of these shelter dogs come in eye infections so we just thought that when she was groomed and got some eye ointment, she would be fine.

Imagine my surprise when Dr. Parker called Monday to tell me that Yvonne had two teeth so badly infected that the absess had erupted through the top of her jaw.

In addition to that, she had a huge (2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide) lipoma (benign fatty tumor), that had to be removed from her neck.  Thankfully nothing to worry about.

All is fixed, but, of course this extra surgery cost a pretty penny.  We need to raise about $405 for her.

DONATION STATUS AS OF 10 PM:  $160 – thanks Deborah Knoepfel, Anne Schwartz, Cheryl McDonald, Laura Douglas.  ONLY $245 TO GO!!

If you think you can help, please go HERE for paypal or go HERE to send a check(please indicate Liv Grand).  We can now take credit cards – American Express, Mastercard, Visa and Discover.  I’ve uploaded the credit card authorization form.  If you want to use a credit card, please click HERE to down load the form.  You can then fax it to 281-754-4851.  And  email me (Teresa@shihtzu-rescue.com) so I know to look for the fax. If you want to use a credit card, and have already used it before, just email me (teresa@shihtzu-rescue.com) the amount you would like to send to help one or more of these babies.
