I’m in the middle of writing up several updates for all of you, but wanted to post this notice that as of 11 am this morning, all of the medical needs noted over the past few weeks have been funded.  GO YOU!!

You all are great - as of right now, we are good to go.  We do have a few with some upcoming expenses, but stay tuned and we’ll let you know in the next few days.

It will include Choco Davis - surgery to remove a bullet from his knee and also surgery to remove the arthritic top of one femur.  It will also incude potential surgery for Juicy Lu to remove a fluid filled mass.  And, finally, heartworm treatment for a newbie, Wilhemina Ranger.

CHARO HAS TO GO BACK TO THE VET!

Posted in Charo Worth at 8:08 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Little Charo, just released from the ICU on Saturday, was refusing to eat today so we decided to run her back to the vet for a look/see.  You know, as close a call as she had, we aren’t taking any chances.  We had x-rays and bloodwork to make sure she is ok.  The x-rays turned out ok.  No increase in congestion.  So we’re waiting on the bloodwork tomorrow to make sure she doesn’t have anything else going on.

Unfortunately, we just ran up another $290 in vet bills!

If you can donate for her fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Charo Worth)!!!

CHARO IS ON HER WAY HOME!!!

Posted in Charo Worth at 12:56 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Although still not out of the woods, the vet thinks there has been enough progress in her lung congestion that he feels she will recover fine at home.  Of course, she still has pneumonia so if she worsens at all or doesn’t eat or doesn’t take her oral meds, she will have to go back.

The bad news is that our bill is $476 more than they estimated so we’re in desperate need for a tiny bit more funds for little Charo.

Karen is picking her up at around 4 today and will try to get more pictures!  So watch the blog tomorrow morning.

If you can donate for her ICU fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Charo Worth)!!!

CHARO UPDATE AND PICTURE

Charo’s foster mom went to visit her this afternoon.  The news from the vet is that he will take another x-ray of her lungs today and if they are still improving AND they can be confident that she will take her oral medications (they are giving her antibiotics through the IV right now), she can go home tomorrow!  Karen is glad.

Thanks to all of you, we’ve received enough to keep her in the hospital through tomorrow.  Charo sends kisses to Barbara Detwiler, Kara Saenz and Denise Welch who pushed her fund over the top.

Posted in Charo Worth at 8:40 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Just a quick update this morning before I head out.  As of 8:30 AM, Charo’s funding for this third day in ICU is at $290 so we’re really, really close.  You guys are so great to respond so quickly!!

Thanks so much  to Dana Woodruff, Judy Carroll, Laura Radler, Donna Wilt!

I will try to get an update from Karen, who is heading to the clinic on her lunch hour to see Charo, and post it this afternoon.

APRIL 12 EVENING - CHARO WORTH UPDATE - CHARO IS IMPROVING

Posted in Charo Worth at 11:28 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Sorry to get this out so late, but today was very hectic.  Not only worrying about Charo, but Kula, Juicy Lu and even two of my own fluffs - little Cherie is now in physical therapy - her luxating patella is getting really bad so she is in hydrotherapy to build her muscles and tendons up bigger so that she can walk better, and my Chach had to go into Gulf Coast Thursday a week ago to have an adrenal tumor removed.  WHEW.  So forgive me.

But, tonight the news on Charo is guardedly optimistic.  Here is the report from Karen, her foster mom..

The vet took some more x-rays this afternoon and Charro’s lung is beginning to clear up although she still has labored breathing . She’s still in ICU with oxygen and getting fluids. She is eating and has no vomiting and diarrhea.  I’ll talk with him again tomorrow to get an update and see when he thinks she might be able to come home. I couldn’t pet her or anything because they have her in isolation. She was sleeping peacefully in a plexiglas crate that has ventilation. Tomorrow I’m going to try and go by and get a picture of her .

Charo is one LUCKY girl, but she still needs some funding.  We are still looking at keeping her in ICU for at least one more day.  We just don’t have the skills nor equipment to keep her on IV’s and oxygen at home.

So, please, help us keep her going.  If you can donate for her ICU fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Charo Worth)!!!

And, please, if you are going to send a check, please email me or complete the pledge form so that I know it’s coming and don’t keep the donation link active too long.  Also, sometimes, just because of timing, we get a bit more than we need, please specify on your donation if you would like it refunded if we don’t use it for Charo.  Or, if you are ok with it, we can apply it to another needy dog - like Arabella, Kula, Juicy Lu Tzu or Angel Burke - that still need a bit of a boost.

April 12 - UPDATE ON CHARO WORTH

Posted in Charo Worth at 12:01 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Karen, Charo’s foster mom, talked to the clinic this morning.  Here is the report..

“Just talked to the staff at Metroplex. She’s still getting oxygen, nebulizin treatments, antibiotics, etc. Still having breathing difficulty. They did a basic blood test this morning which looks pretty good. Her vet doesn’t get in until 1:00 today so she said he’ll call me. Again, if I can get away this afternoon I may swing by and see her.”

So right now, we definitely think she’s going to need that third day in ICU, at least.  She needs about $400-$500.

UPDATE ON CHARO April 11 - Morning

Posted in Charo Worth at 10:09 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Talked to Charo’s foster mom this morning around 8:30.  She was picking Charo up from the ER and transporting her to a local VCA hospital with an ICU area.  Charo seemed a bit perkier this morning - I assume from the fluids last night.

She was checked into the VCA hospital and the foster mom talked at length with the doctor that would be caring for Charo.  They, too, have seen a lot of this virus going around.   She is back on IV’s taking two types of antibiotics - she got really stressed out about taking her pills since she has absolutely no appetite - so we opted to do it through the IV.

The vet thinks she will be there for three days and the estimate for three days is $1400. OUCH!  We did get donations last night to cover her ER bill and about one of these three days.  Thanks to the following:  Judy Florence, Sylvia Ann Wenman, in memory of Shasta and Dexter, Natty Products, Karen Anderson, Donna Ferris, Fur Kids, Wylene Dunbar, Cindy Leigh, Cat Martindale, Anna Dee Lastick, Pam Glass, Denise Welch, Rosemary Cody, Lori Privett, Cathy Hite.

But now we’re back to HELP!!  We need about another $800 to get her through this ICU expense.

If you can donate for her emergency fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Charo Worth)!!!

URGENT - CHARO WORTH IS IN ICU!!

Posted in Charo Worth at 8:20 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Charo-After.JPG

Tuesday night, around 8:30, received a call from Charo’s foster mom.  Charo was having a lot of trouble breathing - raspy pneumonia sounds - and her temp was up to 103 so I told her to get Charo to an ICU asap.  She just called from the emergency clinic - Charo has pneumonia in one lung and bronchitis in the other and is pretty dehydrated.  They put her on IVs and will keep her overnight.  Tomorrow morning, we will move her to an ICU near the foster mom - one that cared for her personal dog in a time of crisis last year.

Folks, this is always expensive.  I just don’t know how to say it any other way - we cannot even be guaranteed that she will make it but we know she will NOT if we don’t try.  The emergency room tonight will cost $760 and the ICU will be probably $500 a day.  We will need her to be watched at least for a couple of days.

Please keep this sweetie in your thoughts and prayers.  We need to try to save her - I know that the money that we’ll spend on this could pay for three heartworm treatments and some probably think we should just let her go and concentrate on those that are in better shape.  We would like to try to save her though.  We’ll keep her in ICU until the funds run out!

So far, as of 8:20 AM, she has total donations and/or donation pledges of $1155.    Thanks to the following:  Judy Florence, Sylvia Ann Wenman, in memory of Shasta and Dexter, Natty Products, Karen Anderson, Donna Ferris, Fur Kids, Wylene Dunbar, Cindy Leigh, Anna Dee Lastick, Pam Glass, Denise Welch, Rosemary Cody, Lori Privett, Cathy Hite.

If you can donate for her emergency fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Charo Worth)!!!

This is really urgent!!

Urgent - Charo Worth - beautiful shih tzu girl - being treated for distemper

Posted in ICU Dogs, Charo Worth at 9:25 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Charo’s foster mom called me last night to tell me that Charo was sneezing and had a fever.  She has been on antibiotics for over a week.  One thing we always watch for is an upper respiratory that doesn’t get better after a week on antibiotics.  We suspect distemper.

So off she goes to our “distemper doc” in Plano.  He has a special way of treating this almost always fatal disease to at least give her a chance to live.   Distemper is a serious virus - hard to diagnose and hard to treat.  You have to catch it early and hit it hard.

The distemper specific treatment that has been successful for several of our dogs cost $350.  Charo may not have distemper, but we don’t have time to wait and see.
