FUNDRAISING UPDATE: Friday, 11 AM…..LE’POODLEY WORTH
What a great day today is! First the great news about Juicy Lu and now this. I just got off the phone with the Surgical Center in Dallas who gave me GREAT NEWS!!
Remember, our regular vet thought surgery was not an option, but ever-the-optimist, I asked our vet to refer us to a surgeon at DVS. I cannot tell you how important it is to get a SPECIALIST on the case when something like this happens.
Once the surgeon heard about Poodley, we were ORDERED over to DVS immediately. The surgeon said he wanted to see her immediately because he thought that if she still has pain, there is a chance for her to walk again!! So Lynda left work and picked Le’Poodley up from the regular vet and went immediately to the surgery center. The surgeon got her in within minutes and examined Poodley. Poodley does have a compressed disc - when this happens, some sort of injury, and it doesn’t have to be major trauma, causes the vertebra to “squash” the disc material out. It hardens and encroaches on the spinal cord causing paralysis. Guess what?!?!
The surgeon gives her a 70% chance to walk again. YIPEE! The surgery involves removing the disc material that is causing pressure on the spinal cord.
I was so excited with this second round of great news —- until I remembered, darn, we have just about tapped out all sources of fundraising after the Mills Kids, Galveston Trio, Chimi’s emergency room, Charro Worth’s pneumonia. Then I got depressed. I don’t know what to do now! Do we just go with her paralyzed and look for a kind soul to help manage her paralysis or…..what?
So what do you all think??? Her surgery will cost $2300-$2500 plus a few hundred for followup visits. On the other hand, a K9-cart, a little wheel chair for doggies, costs around $150-$200 for a rescue of this size.
So, if you all are up for it, we’ll try the surgery. We have a foster home, the same one that nursed McGuire Harley Hurst (Happy Tail HERE) and Zion Burleson back to health. And, honestly, if we can’t do it, that’s ok. You all have done so much for these little dogs in the past and Le’Poodley is alive and she at least has that. She should have a great full life - she’s only about 3-4 years old.
If you do have any pennies to spare, the PAYPAL LINK IS HERE. Or, if you just want to do it by check, go HERE. Be sure to put “Le’Poodley Worth” on the pledge form. If not, please don’t stress about it. You SAVED HER LIFE anyway. And she will have a good life regardless of whether she is in a wheel chair or running on four good legs!! HERE is the little movie Lynda made that shows how she scoots around.
As usual, status will be maintained on this page.
