I’m in the middle of writing up several updates for all of you, but wanted to post this notice that as of 11 am this morning, all of the medical needs noted over the past few weeks have been funded. GO YOU!!
You all are great - as of right now, we are good to go. We do have a few with some upcoming expenses, but stay tuned and we’ll let you know in the next few days.
It will include Choco Davis - surgery to remove a bullet from his knee and also surgery to remove the arthritic top of one femur. It will also incude potential surgery for Juicy Lu to remove a fluid filled mass. And, finally, heartworm treatment for a newbie, Wilhemina Ranger.
Stay tuned!

LITTLE MISS EASTER LILY is just the sweetest thing. But, you know, I was looking at the picture from the shelter that shows how matted she was and I realized that with her back end as broken as it is there is NO WAY that dog could have lived on the street. She can barely walk more than a few feet at a time and then has to rest - so it dawned on me that this girl was so obviously sitting in someone’s back yard like this - how else could she have gotten enough food to survive? Even athletic young dogs on the street are skinny - Lilly isn’t fat, but she certainly is not skin and bones, so… there is some really evil person out there that left this absolutely gorgeous lhasa girl to waste away in a back yard - I really, really wish we could find that “human” and return the favor.
Her vet bills are almost totally funded - thanks to Susan Lewis, Karen Anderson, Odean Cusak, Marty Howard, Tricia Havis, Ginger Guest-Warnick, Donna Wilt, Cat Martindale, Amanda Moulton, Byron Ledger, Michelle Bynum. We only need around $50 to have her off the hook, so if you can donate for her fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Easter Lily Harris)!!!

This one is soooo sad. We went to pick up a little shih tzu at the shelter last week (turned out to be a Maltese , whew!), and they asked us if we wanted this matted, broken girl. They thought she had been hit by a car and of course no one would adopt her from the shelter.
Well, we thought she was a mess when we picked her up, but it’s even worse than we thought.
She has not been hit by a car - just has a horrible very old back injury. She can barely walk but thankfully, is not in pain.
Here you can see her crooked back. And how totally wasted away her back end is. Almost no muscle at all in her back legs.

And how her back legs don’t “work right.”

Here, she’s cleaned up and resting.

She LOVES these little beds.

She also has a horrendous heart murmur - grade V - and is on meds for congestive heart failure. We don’t think she has long, but will give her a place to stay as long as she wants to stay around.
Consequently, we aren’t going to ask for a monthly sponsorship for this beauty. Just for help with vet bills as she incurs them.
To date, she has $365 in vet bills and as of today, $325 in donations. Thank you Susan Lewis, Karen Anderson, Odean Cusak, Marty Howard, Tricia Havis, Ginger Guest-Warnick, Donna Wilt, Cat Martindale, Amanda Moulton, Byron Ledger, Michelle Bynum, . If you can donate for her fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Easter Lily Harris)!!!

Kula started physical therapy yesterday. The hope is that we can build back up his muscles so that he can use the bad leg at least partially. We may later need to have the bones in the foot fused so that he puts the pad on the ground. Right now, because of neurological damage, he often walks with the top of his foot dragging the ground. It is possible that this physical therapy will help.
Here are a few pictures from his day yesterday…

What a sweet kissy face boy Kula is.

One exercise to build up the muscles in his back leg is to make him walk over small hurdles.

Here, the physical therapist is testing his range of motion.

Kula getting his “life jacket” on so he can get into the tank.

Hey, the water is rising. Help, get me out of here.

Ahhh, finally, after 30 minutes of the water walking, I can rest and go home!!
Thankfully, the physical therapy is not as expensive as orthopedic surgery, but it does cost. The cost is $350 for five hour-long sessions which include the water tank, hurdles, etc. Once he gets done with these five sessions, we will re-evaluate his future needs.
If you can donate for his fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Kula Parks)!!!

Just wanted to drop a line to let you know how much I love Cori and to thank-you once again for your email which put Cori in my sights and for giving him a wonderful home for many months.
He is the sweetest little boy - how he ended up in the pound in the condition you saw him and with his terrible dry eye, well, I just don’t understand. We were at the vet this past weekend and my vet said he still has vision in that eye, but there is alot of scaring. He also had a small cornea ulcer. So, he’s on the good cyclosporine ointment / ulcer ointment and “Natural Tears” to keep him lubricated. We did the test to see how much tears his eye produces and it showed NONE. Isn’t that terrible? She said it was like whenever he blinks, he might as well have sandpaper in his eye.
He didn’t much like having his toenails cut - pretty upset reaction. Anywho, he and Chelsea (my other new kiddo) haven’t started to play yet, but I don’t expect that to be the case forever. Chelsea’s first reaction is to be a real b*&^% and I think she intimidated Cori. Right now, Cori just lets her do her thing and stays very laid back. I don’t expect that to last much longer.
Thank-you so much again. I LOVE this little boy. He cuddles / plays / talks … heck, he does everything.
