Menu Foods Income Fund announces precautionary dog and cat food recall

Posted in Breaking News at 10:48 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Menu foods announced yesterday, a recall of dog and cat food manufactured between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007 after receiving feedback from US raising concerns about the impact on the renal health of pets consuming the product….

Also, although not mentioned on these lists, HILLS, the makers of Science Diet and the Hills prescription brand dog food is also doing a recall.  Read Hills notice HERE.

What concerned me more than this specific incident is to see how many DIFFERENT, well-known brands are manufactured at the same plant and presumably with similar ingredients.  Many of these brands are foods we routinely recommend for shih tzu and lhasas – others are brands we wouldn’t allow within ten feet of a tzu or lhasa.  Now to find they are all under the same recall begs the question of whether there is, in fact any difference between these brands.

What are some of the brands you recommend for Lhasas. I have noticed that different types of food cause more/less eye discharge than others.

I was shocked to see Nutro on this list with all these low grade foods. I personally do not feed my dogs this brand but I know a few in the Rescue group do. I would be concerned that this brand is processed in the same plants as Ol Roy and these other low grade filler foods. Makes you wonder how Natural Nutro really is.

I’m a reporter, and I would love to chat with some of you offline about what you’re feeding your pets these days and how the recall is affecting you. Please e-mail me. THanks.
