What a great story.  He will have a sister, a 1 & 1/2 yr old Shih Tzu.  His new mom is deaf and a deaf advocate attorney, so truly understands what it takes.  The funny thing is that foster mom, Sunny, was afraid he would not get adopted!

Congratulations to the wonderful new parents to be giving a home to such a “STAR.”

Abbi Tate Worth – home in her forever foster home at last

Little Ms. Abbi, the 15 year old owner turn in, was transported to her new forever foster home this weekend.  Here’s the report this morning…

Abbi has settled right into her new forever home.  She has checked out the yard and the house so she knows where the food and water bowls are.  She seems to be a pillow girl.  We almost always find her on a pillow when it is nap time. She seems to be healing up real well although she wants to lick at her incision and her paws so we are working on those issues.  She and Star get along just fine.  No problems there.Photos attachedMike and Joyce

Within 2 hours of starting actual delivery, MacKenzie delivered 4 babies.  All are healthy and doing well.  3 little girls (Russet Spuds, Tater Tot Spuds and Idaho Spuds) and the last one was a boy (Bud Spuds).  The girls weighed 4 1/2 oz., 7 oz. and 6 oz. respectively and Bud weighs 8 oz.  It is obvious to me that MacKenzie has not been a mommy before but I am sure she will get the hang of it.  All are not nestled up next her belly eating and keeping warm.  MacKenzie is somewhat cranky if I come near her and her babies.

Please help with her vet bills HERE!  So far, we’re still down by $800 for her.  HELP

Yep, that’s right!  I just got the following email from Lovey MacKenzie Spuds’ foster mom:

(Lovey MacKenzie) has started early labor.  2 hours ago she roamed the house for her birthing spot and settled in the closet in the master bath (same place Momma Belle  gave birth).  Her temperature had dropped to 99.37.  She is quivering now but is in her box that I have made for her and she seems to like it.  Got a soft lamp in there, soft music and everything else that I could possibly need.

I thought we had a few more days to raise the funds for her vetting, but help!!!  Now we are going to need it much quicker!

Please consider adding to her fund!!

Funding update for Felicity/Tootie and sweet Lovey MacKenzie Spuds

Posted in Felicity Hill, Lovey MacKenzie Spuds at 11:20 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

As of 10:00 pm, our funds are growing for these three deserving little fluffs.

Felecity and Tootie’s fund is at $315 right now, about 25% of where they need to be by mid week next week.  Thanks Dana, Barbara, Martin (always there for all of the dogs), and Kristen!!

Little pregnant Lovey MacKenzie has $195 but she and her four little baby fluffs still need $800 before next week.  She’s very thankful to Sharon, Cat, Martin, Barbara and Brandy.

Abbi Tate Worth Update – our sweet 15 year old is closer to her forever foster home!

Posted in Abbi Tate Worth, Forever Fosters at 11:06 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Received this update today from the DFW coordinator:

Abbi got her dental today and she has these amazing white teeth and only had two removed.  They were lose due to so much hair being wrapped around them.

She had a couple of fatty tumors removed from her side and an inclusion cyst removed from her tail.  She will need stitches out in 10 to 14 days.

She also had her ears flushed and the hair removed.

Her heartworm test was negative YEAH!!!!

She has a skin infection and was started on antibiotics.  Hopefully this will take care of her chewing her skin.

She is an amazing little girl and should be just fine.  She did great in her surgery and ate a little when she got home and is staying pretty close to the water bowl right now.  We will meet Mike and Joyce this weekend and she will go home where she can get all the TLC she can handle.  Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers and well wishes for this little girl.

YEAH.  Go Abbi.

Update, 3:00 pm, Friday.

We are slowly making progress on rounding up enough to pay for these sweeties vetting.  So far, Lovey has $150 toward the $1000 we think we need for her vetting and that of the puppies.  Thanks Cat and Barbara!!

The two cherry eye girls, Felicity and Tootie, have $50 toward their surgery.  THANKS Barbara.

Here is a little update on her trek to Lone Star from her new foster mom….

Smashed up french fries (hence the name Lovey MacKenzie Spuds) looked and tasted like caviar to this starving, pregnant mom who was eating them in a Denton, Texas apartment parking lot, next to the dumpster, when she was found.  The sonogram indicates she is pregnant with 4 babies.  She was filthy with long matted and cockaburred fur.  Even though she had been a stray, spent 7 days at a vet’s office and then came into rescue, she allowed me to groom her without incident.  She is a sweet as they come although the snap of a camera is something that frightens her.  She also is very curious of the back door.  It is obvious (from the way she rides in cars, walks on a leash and is polite) that she was someone’s well cared for dog and I believe she is trying to get back to her owner.  Once those babies arrive, she will not care about that any longer.  The vet estimates she will deliver within the next 7 days.  According to his measurements, MacKenzie should do fine with the delivery as the babies are not as big as originally anticipated.  Now we wait for her temperature to drop and the babies to arrive.  Other than being pregnant, she is a healthy girl and so polite.  I like to gently rub her belly and tell her that I know she has babies in there.  She seems to like that as it is soothing to her.

Sweet little Felicity Hill has a nasty cherry eye!!!

Posted in Felicity Hill, ICU Dogs at 1:37 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Introducing our little miss Felicity in her before and after poses. A local shelter found her wandering the cold streets in a southern suburb of Dallas.  As you can see in the before picture, she was a very matted ball of fur. After hours of bathing and grooming, out emerged a tiny cutie. She is very young and playful.  She probably has not had much love in her life because she was very scared of things at first. For example she has no idea how to play with doggie toys and the squeaky ones make her run and hide.  She does love people and other dogs and wants to play.  So given time and some confidence boosting she will blossom into the perfect family member.
Unfortunately, after all the fur came off of her, we discovered she has a condition known as cherry eye.  This is when a gland at the base of the eye, which usually produces tears, becomes enlarged and starts poking into the eye itself.  It is very irritating and causes the whole eye to be red and itchy.  If not treated, Felicity could scratch at it, which could traumatize the gland further or possibly create an  ulcer on the surface of the eye.  Fortunately, there is a treatment for this condition which will relieve all of her pain.  The vet can surgically tack the gland back into place with a suture.  In addition, she has a small hernia that needs to be repaired. Please help Felicity by becoming one of her angels and donating towards the cost of her surgery so she can soon find her “forever” home where she’ll be loved and cherished the rest of her life.

Of course, she really needs your help.  The estimate for her total vetting is just over $686.  She would prefer that she gets this nasty cherry eye fixed sooner than later.

If you can help, please donate via paypal HERE.  Or GO HERE to send her a check.

Lovey, pregnant lhasa, becoming a Lone Star dog tomorrow!

Posted in Lawson Turner, Lovey MacKenzie Spuds at 12:12 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

We confirmed it today, this little gal is coming into rescue TOMORROW – Friday.  No one else wanted her, no one else wanted the risk of a pregnant lhasa with four LARGE puppies – ready to be born.  SO, we’re picking her up.

Guys, we need help.  We have one donation, THANKS CAT!!, so far for this gal and desperately need to know that we have enough to vet her and those LARGE babies – don’t know what this sweet little girl has been bred by but we think she’s enough lhasa to make up for just about anything.  We need another $900 or so to be able to take care of them.  HELP.

If you can help, please donate via paypal HERE.  Or GO HERE to send her a check.

And, ALERT, ALERT, we may have to do a c-section.  You never know whats going to happen when a sweet fluff has been bred to a possibly much larger dog.  The vet estimates the c-section at around $700 but we’ll let you know if it comes down to requiring a c-section to save her life.
