Posted in Echo Montgomery, Forever Fosters at 5:05 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

I emailed Echo’s foster mom last night and found out Echo is having a bad month. She is currently at the vet due to a buildup of toxins in her blood. She is receiving IV fluids to help hydrate her and clean out these bad toxins. Little Echo needs your help and prayers.

Update on sweet shih tzu man, Audi Harris

Posted in Audi Harris, Forever Fosters at 9:00 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Hi, a quick update on Audi and hopes for good news. Last night Audi tossed his cookies so to speak and now has no interest in eating. The vet is concerned this tummy issue could tun bad very quickly with his problems so we will go in for a check up to see what is going on. Please wish him good luck. He asks us for so little and is such a good natured gentleman. Loves belly runs and sleeps on his back most of the time with all four legs totally relaxed. Looks like he is on vacation chilling on the beach! He is great!!

Say hello to Mims and Merlin-stunning tibetan terriers

Posted in Forever Fosters, Mims and Merlin at 10:42 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Merlin and Mims have been with us since January when we got them from the wonderful couple that cared for them after their dad died suddenly.  The family knew he would have made plans for them if he thought they would outlive him.  Have you made plans?  These two tibetan Terriers are absolutely wonderful dogs with NO, yes NO health issues that we have found.  No medications for either of them.  Merlin is a little hard of hearing but he is getting up there in age.  Mims lacks some in the sight area so they make a great pair.  They are true siblings and bonded as well.  Mims love to clean Merlin’s face and ears.  Merlin seems to enjoy it too.   Merlin likes to be loved but is a little more to himself whereas Mims loves to play and instigates play with the other dogs.  Please give them another look and open your heart to a loving bonded BEAUTIFUL pair of dogs.

Say Hello to Bok Choy Harris

Posted in Amazing Makeovers, Bok Choy Harris, ICU Dogs at 8:14 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Hi my name is Bok Choy.  My foster mom tells me that I am just the sweetest little shy girl!  I guess that’s because I haven’t had much human socialization.  At first, I cowered when anyone tried to pet me, but now that I see there isn’t anything to hurt me, I follow my foster mom all around just so she’ll bend down and pet me.  I used to not have very much  hair on my back but it’s growing in very nicely now – a few more weeks on good food and supplements, and I’ll look like a normal doggie.  I’m heading into my senior years, and would like to find a place that will let me live INDOORS from now on.  My foster mom says that my skin was yucky because I lived outdoors.

We expect that this girl will not get any adoption offers due to her age – she’s about 10.  We’ll keep her safe - not as good as being the spoiled princess in a house with only one or two dogs, as she really deserves to be, but she will be safe and loved. Right now, we’re looking at $100 a month, for her vet visits and meds while she is in our program.  She is looking for five people to subscribe to donate only $20 a month for her.  If you are interested in being one of her sponsors while she remains in our program, you can subscribe via paypal HERE or if you would rather send a check, you can do it HERE.

Today, Bok Choy has 1 sponsor.  THANKS CAT!!

Meet Bernie

Posted in Bernie, Forever Fosters at 1:12 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Bernie is a 11 year old sweetie, turned over to animal control by his family when the kids went to college after he had been their guard dog and companion all his life. He was not too well cared for ate only scraps, was overweight has a cataract on one eye along with a bad heart murmur. Bernie is a joy to have around, just wants to be near you, LOVES to go for walks and does not ask for much. He has been with us for close to two years and is not adopted yet. I guess his heart murmur is too much for someone to deal with. Yes it is hard to loose a dog you adopt, but please think of the dogs and how thrilled they are to have someone love them. Please don’t over look Bernie or any of the other forever fosters, they still have love to give.

Here’s Bernie’s intro:

Hi my new name is Bernie, I like that I got a brand new name for a brand new life!  My last place I lived I stayed outside all the time and they called me their “watchdog”, what is that?  Now I am living inside with some nice people and a few other dogs.  I can even go anywhere I want in the house and when I got scared of the loud noises outside I was picked up and cuddled.  Not sure what cuddling is, but I do like it. I guess my left eye has a cataract in it and I probably don’t see much from it, but my other one is fine.  I only ate people scraps in my last home so I hear I am a little “chubby” that sounds good to me, but my foster mom says she is working on my figure, UPDATE I lost the weight and look great now!!!!  I am a very sweet, easy going guy that has lived with kids and I like all the other dogs in my new house.  The cats upstairs I like too, but they don’t like my curiosity as much, UPDATE the cats and I have an agreement now and get along fine, until they run and sure I will chase if they want me to.  Playing tag is FUN! My potty training is going very well, I weigh about 17 pounds which is great.  I am supposed to be 9, but I act much younger.  Do you need a new  playmate??  Can I come live with you?  I won’t be any trouble, I promise.   Please, please???

We don’t know why people cannot open their hearts to these elderly abandoned dogs, but Bernie has had no inquiries at all to be adopted.  So, he can hang around here with us for the rest of his life, if no one else wants him.

Bernie only needs around $100 a month, for his vet visits and meds while he is in our program.  He is looking for five people to subscribe to donate only $20 a month for him.  If you are interested in being one of him sponsors while he remains in our program, you can subscribe via paypal HERE or if you would rather send a check, you can do it HERE.

At this time, Bernie has 1 sponsor.  THANKS CAT.

All About Heaven Ennis

Posted in Forever Fosters, Heaven Ennis at 12:00 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Heaven-10-20-2006-1.jpg

Heaven is a miracle dog. Read her history below and you’ll see that we’ve been battling ’something’ for over a year. We still don’t know that it is but believe we are very, very close. The interesting thing is that Heaven doesn’t act sick – but her bloodwork tells us that there is something infecting her somewhere!!
Heaven continues to need tests to determine what is causing her elevated white blood cell count. This sweet little baby girl deserves a good life. That’s why we named her Heaven; we just knew that after the awful conditions that she came from, her new life would be “heaven”.
Although it’s true she’s had a good foster home and good care, we need to find out what is causing her medical problems so that promise we made her to get her a loving “forever” home can be realized. Can you help us help Heaven by donating for her ongoing medical expenses?
To date, we’ve spent over $2,800 on this little sweetie(see the summary below), just trying to figure out what is wrong with her. These cases are difficult – at first, the cost was just $300 for removing her very infected uterus. Then, more meds, more tests, it always seems that one more little vet bill will get her healthy. Now, she really needs your help. Here is the summary of Heaven’s charges through the first week of October.

 HeavenEnnis11-30-2006.jpg

As of the afternoon of October 19, 2006, Heaven’s fund is still in desperate need of donations. We have received donations and pledges totalling $1,070.00. You can see the list of donors by clicking the link entitled “Heaven’s Angels” to the right. Plesase, if you can, help this little sweetie.
To donate via paypal, please click HERE. If you would rather send a check, please click HERE link.

A new plea was sent out to our wonderful supporters on October 20.  Heaven’s bills have topped $2800 and so far, she only has $1070 in her medical fund so needs another $1800.  We need to do some serious fundraising for Heaven to get this thing balanced so we can underwrite her future bills.

Update:  November 1, 7:30 am CST

Total collected as of Heaven’s wonderful angels include:

Liberty Lawn & Pest, Ugolik Chiropractic Clinic, Camie Barclay, Darlene Hargrove, Jeannette Avent, Jennifer Rue, Nicole Sellitti, Martin Howard, Wendy Piatek, Susan Gregory, Maureen S and Lori Ugolik, Pam Glass, Juanita Smith,

Heaven only has $1540 to go.  You know, most of the contributions that fund the emergency and other medical needs come in in $10, $20, $50 donations.  No donation is too small – it all adds up!!

New pictures showing her adorable face:

Say hello to Audi Harris

Posted in Audi Harris, ICU Dogs at 8:31 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

 Audi1.jpg

Say hello to this sweet elderly old man.  Little guy is at least 13 years old and was left at the Harris County shelter to end his days.  Thankfully, they let us take him.  He has a bad heart murmur and a few other minor things.  Here is a note from his foster mom…..

Hello to all from Audi!! He has been at our home for several days now and is fitting in just fine. He only wants belly rubs, to know where you are in the house and to be there too! Audi has dry eye so for that he gets a drop a day and we are clearing up an infection in both eyes from no tear production for so long. He also has a heart murmur and is on low dose of the medication at this time with no need for lasix yet, which is GREAT! He is really a sweet guy that deserves to have a home of his own for his remaining time. Please don’t overlook him or any of these sweet seniors that will love you more than any young puppy. They know what the world can do to a dog and appreciate the kindness they get from anyone. Audi is a great dog, big beautiful eyes that melt you. Thank you for visiting.

Audi’s Foster mom

Audi will be in our program for the rest of his days.  He does need some help in the funding area.  Without your donations, we cannot continue to take in these needy, yet deserving, abandoned little dogs.  Audi ran up a small bill with all the initial diagnostics and getting him stabliized.  His fund needs $ 225 for the initial work up.  He also will need a monthly “allowance” to allow him medicines and periodic vet bills.  We’ve determined that, on average, barring serious complications, these dogs need about $1200 a year for normal vetting.  Audi is looking for five people to contribute only $20 a month to his “normal vetting” fund.

To be one of Audi’s monthly sponsors by credit card, go HERE to subscribe to his monthly contribution via paypal.  Or if you would like to send a check for $20 a month, go HERE.

And, if you could or would like to sponsor all or part of his initial $225 vetting bill, please donate HERE via paypal or HERE to send a check.

Audi says thank you so much for not letting him die on the cold concrete floor at the shelter.

Update:  October 20, Audi has partial sponsorship for his initial vetting.  Thanks to Victoria T., Audi needs only $205 to pay off his initial bill.  He also needs MONTHLY SPONSORS!!

To date, Audi has 0 monthly sponsors.

Aggie – sweet elderly one-eyed shih tzu girl

Posted in Aggie, Forever Fosters at 8:17 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Aggie came to us from Harris County Animal Control  She was horribly matted and both eyes were swollen and inflamed.  She also had numerous small tumors all over her body.  We kept her on antibiotics for several weeks and the swelling went down in one eye.     We were told by Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic that the muscles that hold the eye in it’s socket had been torn and her eye would never recover, so we opted to remove it and relieve the pain.  She recovered nicely, but with one eye, limited sight in the other eye and her age, we doubt that she’ll ever catch anyone’s fancy so will stay in a foster home for the rest of her life.

Aggie also needs around $100 a month, for her vet visits and meds while she is in our program.  She is looking for five people to subscribe to donate only $20 a month for her.  If you are interested in being one of her sponsors while she remains in our program, you can subscribe via paypal HERE or if you would rather send a check, you can do it HERE.

As of today, Aggie has 0 monthly sponsors.

Echo Montgomery – Forever Foster – shih tzu/lhasa mix with terminal liver disease

Posted in Echo Montgomery, Forever Fosters at 4:47 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Echo2.jpg

We rescued Echo from the local shelter in late June 2006. We took her, per normal procedure, to our northside rescue vet. Because she was not in need of any treatment or spay, she was ready to go to a foster home quickly. We decided to be her foster family and took her into our home. Very quickly it became apparent she was drinking an excessive amount of water (64 oz. in one day), and what goes in, must come out. We took her back to the vet for further diagnosis. It was determined that she had a UTI and her liver enzyme levels were abnormal. We took her back home and treated her for the UTI, but about a week later she became very lethargic, and pacing aimlessly. We rushed her back to the vet, and upon examination, set up an emergency admission to Texas A&M Vet Hospital. They found she has liver disease (probably failed to develop properly), polycystic renal disease, hydronephrosis, kidney cysts and other more minor ailments. They also found her stomach and spleen are located in the wrong quadrant of her body.

We brought her back home, and since that time, she has needed to see the vet only one time. This was due to toxin buildup which her small liver is unable to process and required administration of IV fluids. This was mid-September, and she has been doing well since then. She is on a daily special prescription diet (food which can only be obtained through a vet). She has three prescription meds administered daily. She will periodically develop a toxic overload and require IV fluids administered by a vet.

Despite all her medical problems, she is a very sweet little girl, very affectionate and active. In fact, if it were not for the large amounts of water she consumes, a person would not know she is not a normal, healthy dog. She is very young (approx. 3 yrs. old) and very small, weighing 7 – 8 lbs. She has a strong desire to live life to its fullest. She loves her daily walks and never meets a stranger. Although she is considered non-adoptable due to her medical problems and the fact that she will not live a full-term life, a special person who has the time to devote to her would find her to be an excellent companion.

What Echo needs most is a sponsor(s) to help defray her daily medication and diet costs, and, of course, the periodic need for vet treatment. This little girl loves life — help us to help her.

Echo needs five generous monthly sponsors to sign up for a small $20 per month donation.  If you would like to be one of Echo’s monthly sponsors via paypal, please CLICK HERE.  Or if you’d like to send a monthly check, CLICK HERE.

As of today, Echo has 1 monthly sponsor.  THANKS CAT!!
