Sawyer White – senior shih tzu boy

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:04 pm by Administrator

Is this not the cutest little boy??  When we first picked up Sawyer, his foster mom noticed that he acted a bit “weird.”  Nothing major, but weird symptoms that might mean diabetes, throid problems or even the dreaded Cushings disease.  Or, it could be nothing and “weird” is normal for me.  We ran a bunch of tests, and thankfully, ruled out the really bad things, but the cost exceeded the estimate and we really need a bit more funding to pay his bill.

Thank you to Janet T., Patty S., Lori U., and Patty D., for their generous donations of $150.  We still need $635 in his fund.  If you’d like to contribute to the fund for Sawyer’s diagnostic tests, please CLICK HERE to contribute via Paypal or HERE to send him a check.

Here’s Sawyer’s introduction:

Let me introduce myself, I am Sawyer. My foster mom says I look like  a little stuff toy, very cute if I have to say so myself.  I was not  properly cared for in my previous life, but I am making up for that  now and enjoying all the TLC I am getting!  One of my favorite  things to do is to cuddle with my foster mom and nest in my bed.   And boy, I do love to sleep!  I am potty trained to the doggie door  and I will let you know when the doggie door is closed. I get along  with other dogs as long as they don’t get in my face and I don’t  mind cats.  When I am not napping, I like to play with stuff toys  and go for walks.  My foster mom said I was very skinny when she  first got me and I must have enjoyed all the scrumptious food,  because now I need to loose a few pounds.  The walks should help with that.  I am a big boy and sleep in my dog bed at night, but I  do have fears of being in small places so crates and car rides are  not good for me.

Sawyer is approximately 9 or 10  years old.  He has limited vision due to a dry eye condition that  was not properly treated, and he will need daily eye drops (twice a  day) for the rest of his life.  He gets around good for having limited vision and some hearing loss.  Numerous tests have been done  on Sawyer and they have all come back negative. The vet has come to  the conclusion that Sawyer has some neurological issues, but with  the right medicine, he will be a happy dog.  Sawyer is a very sweet  dog that deserves a better life than what he had.  He will need to  go to a special home that can give him lots of love and care.  If  you want to add a laid-back, sweet lap dog to your family than Sawyer would be your guy.

Sawyer was doing well, and then, September 25th he had an episode. He was shaking, would not move, and could not open one of his eyes. This lasted for about 30 minutes. He was taken to our vet and it seems that Sawyer had a mild stroke. The vet ran blood work and wanted to do the blood work again in two weeks to make sure everything leveled out. Sawyer was back to normal the next day but what a scare for us at my house! They may be fosters, but these little guys and gals become part of the family. Sawyer knows he will be taken care even if he stays a forever foster because wonderful people like you care about him! He says “thanks” for giving him a chance to live the rest of his life with love and proper care.

Sawyer’s vet bill for this initial treatment and the followup comes to about $200.  If you would like to contribute to Sawyer’s vet bills via Paypal, please CLICK HERE.   Or to send Sawyer a check, CLICK HERE.

Sawyer got adopted by a wonderful person. His new mom, Pam, thinks he is just the cutest little guy. Sawyer is very lucky to have Pam as his new mom! This gives hope to other forever fosters that there are special people that care about them and are willing to give them a forever home.

I am so happy that Sawyer got a forever home. I have been keeping up with him for over a year now and just saw this update!
