Cutie Lawson gets his first groom….

Of course, the big problem with being a pet dog is that you’ve got to be a pet dog – grooming and all.  Haha

Well, Lawson did well with his first groom.  Even without eyes, this boy is a doll.  And, wonder of all wonders, this little guy is pestering his “brother” Spudz to death.  He plays and plays and plays, pinning Spudzy boy to the ground.  Great, wonderful sight.

Lawson certainly is enjoying himself

I just had to share these pictures sent by Lawson’s foster mom.

In the first one, his foster “sister” Sammy, a yellow lab, has decided to sleep in Lawson’s tiny little shih tzu-sized bed.

In the second, his foster “bother” Spudz, has decided that he, too, loves Lawson’s little blankie sent by Odean and just MUST share the bed with Lawson.

So cute!

Love these little pictures.  And thanks so much to all of you that saved this little boy.

Lawson at home with Foster Family now!

What a whirlwind few days for this little guy.  Foster mom went to pick him up today – thank goodness, the bleeding had stopped and the vet was able to clean up his little pitiful face.  He already is feeling better and starting to act like what he is – a puppy.

Thanks everyone, for coming to his rescue so fast!  Sometimes, we just don’t know what to do about these cases – we want to save them, but man, it’s hard to keep up with them all.  As always, click to enlarge.

The image is a tad blury, but hey, it’s because he’s running around and the foster mom can’t catch him.  LOL

Hot off the press – Lawson has had his surgery!

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:29 pm by Administrator

Received the report from the vet late this afternoon.  The surgery was easier than he expected and there is no apparent damage to anything underneath these huge eye-tumors.  He was breathing on his own and already in the process of waking up.  His foster mom went over to visit him around 6 and got the picture below.  She had this to say …

several nurses said he had been very vocal before I got there & he had just settled down.  I didn’t remove him, but opened up the towel & stroked him & talked to him for about 5 minutes & took some photos.  One of the nurses had been holding & carrying him around to comfort him.  I guess he was in a lot of pain.  He continued bleeding through the stitches & they had washed the area repeatedly, but couldn’t get all the blood off.  I asked why there was so much blood.  I didn’t expect him to look so bad.  And the smell is still there.  He seemed pretty out of it.  I hope he’s ok to come home tomorrow.  Robert would like him to stay for a couple of days, but I wouldn’t leave him there for that long.

See little sweet four pound, three month old Lawson below.  Click to make the picture bigger.

Although hard to look at a little puppy with this significant surgery, this type of “gross” is something normal.

We had a lot of response to this little guy’s plight.  Thanks big time to the following super shih tzu lovers who all came through very quickly for this little guy!  By the time I got home tonight, we had more than what we needed for this surgery.

Kara Saenz, Julie Martin, Cat Martindale, Micki Jenkins, David Moneyhon, Margaret Lubke, Cynthia Adams, Jean Smith, Byron Ledger, Elliott Lander, Deborah Woolard, Leah Abdenour, Pam Glass, Susan Gregory, Tiffany Dickhaut, Arthur Schoefer, Ginger Guest-Warnick, Barbara Grabell, Jennifer Lenardic, Victor Bosquez, Lori Ugolik, Tresa Lowe, Barry Thomas, Lorna Van De Wiele, Wendy Barnum, Joan Samara, Patricia Heitmann, Jill Kirk, Donna Wilt, Doug Cameron.

No more donations are needed for Lawson right now.  But, if you wanted to recognize little Lawson, there are several ICU dogs that still need help with their funds.  Ismael and Razzle are the two newest.  GO HERE to see.

Yes, you read it right, this little three month old guy has HUGE tumors on his eye balls.

We got a call earlier in the week – from the person who bred his mom and dad – yes, yet again one of the backyard, hobby, part-time, gotta-make-money on my pets kind of breeder ….

She explained that she had a puppy with cysts on his eyes and couldn’t afford the vet cost to remove the eyes (of course, then it would cut in on her profit margin – the profit she makes by breeding little dogs) so she wanted a rescue to take the puppy.  You know, what is it about these people – I guess it is just a business transaction with them – they care no more about this little life than Petsmart cares about the bags of dog food they sell.  Even though they are responsible for bringing this little boy into the world, they quickly step backwards (rather than step up) when it might cost something to do the right thing.

One of our foster homes picked him up and was horrified – the cysts are huge and are stretching his eye sockets.  So that you all won’t be totally grossed out, I posted the pictures in the section to the right “Pictures of Lawson – not for the squeamish.”  I must warn you, they are horrific.

But, we need help, as usual.  We have an appointment for him tomorrow (Thursday, Jan 11) and desperately need to have the funds on hand for his surgery.  The estimate to remove both eyes (that’s all that can be done) is $600-$800 with no complications.
