SHANGHAI - ALSO KNOWN AS “GUMMI”
Hi, my name is Shanghai and I am a beautiful 12 pound black and white Shih Tzu boy. I’m a little older at 10-12 years, but I still have some years left in me! Everyone who meets me tells me what a charming guy I am! And, I’m lovable too! I am a Forever Foster because I have some special needs. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
Everyone calls me Gummi because I have no teeth! Before I was rescued by Lone Star, I had very poor dental care. No one brushed my teeth or let the veterinarian do a dental. Because of this neglect, I have lost every one of my teeth! My foster family laughs at me because sometimes when I get upset I try to bite a little. With no teeth that’s hard to do and “gumming” my intended victim just has no effect except to bring on laughter. Because my foster family is laughing at me, I get even more upset and continue “gumming” them! I then realize that they are playing a game with me and we then play the “gummy game” for a little while. I’ll do anything to make my foster family happy.
I’m normally a pretty easy going little dog. I get along just fine with my foster brothers and sisters, but I tend to mind my own business. Sometimes my foster siblings get upset with me because I bump into them. You see, I am blind. I lost one eye due to glaucoma and my other eye has no vision. I get drops in my eye to keep it healthy so I don’t have to have it removed, too. I only occasionally bump into something in my foster home as I have learned my way around the house. But those foster siblings of mine never stay in one place!!!
I am also on a special medicine for senility. A few months ago I started just walking in circles and trying to climb things when I bumped into them. My veterinarian prescribed a medication called Anilpryl for me. It has helped me a lot and I’m now my old normal self.
I am very affectionate and like to be near my family for a short spells and have my belly rubbed. I also like to lay on my favorite bed and take a snooze, too. I know that I am in the Forever Foster program, but I could give some special someone lots of love and some “gumming” too! It would be wonderful to find a forever home. If you think you could find a place in your home for me, please contact my foster mom at teresa@shihtzu-rescue.com. She will tell you it would be worth it to adopt me.
I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots and heartworm negative.
