SIENNA

My name is Sienna and I am a Forever Foster.  I am a beautiful 9-10 year old champagne colored Lhasa Apso senior lady.  I weigh about 19 pounds or so.

I don’t see very well, nor do I hear very well, but I do follow my foster mom around the house and wherever she is, you can find me right by her side.  Because I don’t see or hear very well, I can startle easily when someone tries to pet me or pick me up.  If I know you are there, it’s fine though!  I love to be with people, I just need to be awake to love you!!!  My day consists mostly of sleeping and eating.  I think the best part of the day is when I am fed and I am definitely awake for that!  I really do LOVE to eat!!

I was left alone a lot for about 2 years when my mom was working 3 jobs.  She couldn’t take care of me anymore so that’s why I now live with my Lone Star foster family.  Because I was neglected and alone, I now have to relearn many things. I am a bit confused about many things.  I am relearning housebreaking and my foster mom knows that when I get up from my nap I need to go outside right away.  I don’t bark at all, so my foster mom needs to see me at the back door to know that I need to go out.  Hopefully this will get better with time.  I also have to learn the layout of the house and yard, particularly where the pool is.  My foster mom takes me outside on a leash so I don’t accidentally fall into the pool.  Since my eyesight isn’t very good, this might happen!

I hope that someone in addition to my foster family can love me and be patient with me as I learn to be a good dog again.  It is going to be a long process, which is why I am in the Forever Foster program.

If you would like to learn more about me please contact my foster mom at wilma.f.winter@us.army.mil.  You might even be interested in helping out with some of the expenses of my care.  I do need drops daily for my eyes and medicines can be expensive.  Please check out the Forever Foster Home Page to see about donating to our Forever Foster program.  We would appreciate any help you are able to give.

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots and am heartworm negative.

MERLIN - I’VE CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

My name is Merlin and I am a Forever Foster.  I am a 16 year old Tibetan Terrier who came to Lonestar a few years ago with my sister Mims.  Our dad died and no one in the family could take care of us.  We were very fortunate that the wonderful Lonestar volunteers took us in, even though we are a lot bigger than Shih Tzus and Lhasa Apsos!!.  Mims and I were inseparable and stayed together until a few months ago when Mims crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  I was sad and lonely for a few weeks, but now I am doing quite well.

Even though I am 16 years young, I still am living the good life.  I’m a bit slower when I get up from the floor or my bed, but once I’m up and moving I can go at a pretty good clip!!  My favorite thing to do is to patrol the yard and keep the horses in line whether they need it or not!!  I also LOVE to roll in the grass – it feels so good!!!

I have developed some kidney problems and am now on special food to help that condition, but that’s all that is a concern at this time.

As you can see by my picture, I’m quite a good looking senior citizen.  I recently had my hair cut shorter for the summer and I’m enjoying my boyish new look.  I am a very low maintenance dog.  I always want to know where my foster mom is and what she is doing, but I don’t demand attention.   Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE attention and to be petted, but I am also very happy knowing that I have my grass to roll in, a bed to sleep in, regular meals, and a foster family that loves me.  Life is definitely good.

Even though I am older and am in the Forever Foster program, there is always a chance that someone might be interested in adopting me or helping with my care by donating to the Forever Foster program.  If you are that special someone, please contact my foster mom at shihtzu-rescue@comcast.com .  I am altered, up to date on all my shots, heartworm negative and microchipped.
