HUTCH

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:50 pm by Administrator

New Hutch.jpg

Hello out there!  My name is Hutch and I am a gray and white Shih Tzu boy.  I am young, maybe about 1-2 years old.   The volunteers at Lone Star found me at the local animal shelter and took me home with them.  I looked quite the mess because I had been living outside.  I had been dropped off at the shelter because my first family was moving and they could not take me with them.  I am REALLY glad that the volunteers at Lone Star found me because my life as a foster dog is ever-so-good and ever-so-much better than my previous life!!!  It’s definitely much better to live inside rather than outside, that’s for sure!!!

Because I was living outside I was not housebroken when I came into foster care.  I have to learn new potty manners now that I am an insider.  My foster mom says that I am getting better and better each day.  But I do appreciate it when she tells me it’s time to go outside!

I would love to be an only dog in my forever home so that I could get all the attention I deserve.  I like my foster siblings OK, but I just prefer to get ALL the attention and not share it with them.  If there happened to be another dog in my forever home, he or she would need to know that I’m in charge!!!  Also, no small children please as they move a little quickly for me and scare me a bit.

I love to play and have found that toys are GREAT!!  I would play with my squeaky toys all day if I could.  I particularly like my toy hamburger and will carry it with me all over the house and yard.  If one of my foster siblings somehow gets it away from me, I WILL get it back!  I also love to take walks with my foster mom and I’m learning how to play fetch.  But the very best thing is that I live inside the house with my foster family.  I like to go outside and play and watch the squirrels, but I LOVE living inside and even sleeping right next to my foster mom at night.  What a life!

Please consider me if you are looking for a new family member as I need a forever family to love.  If you would like more information about me, please look at my Petfinder page.  You could also contact my foster mom at mh@cableone.net.  She would be happy to tell you what a fine fellow I am.

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots and am heartworm negative.

AMARETTO

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:41 pm by Administrator

Rhett 3.jpg

My name is Amaretto, but I prefer to be called Rhett.  My foster mom started calling me that because she thinks that I am as good looking and debonair as Rhett Butler!!!  I think that’s pretty cool for I am truly one very handsome 5-6 year old beige and white Shih Tzu boy.  I was at the local animal shelter before I came into foster care so I also consider myself to be VERY lucky!!  I now have a great foster home with great foster siblings to play with and I hope someday soon to live in my forever home.

I had a bit of a rough beginning when I came into foster care as I had a broken jaw that needed to be fixed.  I had the surgery to correct my jaw and now I am happy and healthy.  I have the cutest little lopsided smile as a result of my surgery!!  I do have to be careful of the kind of food I eat and also the kind of toys I play with.  Other than that, I have no restrictions.   My foster mom says that I have a great attitude considering all I have been through.  She even calls me her best and favorite foster boy!!  Don’t let my foster siblings hear that!!!

I’m a good walker and love to go for walks in the neighborhood.  I also like to play with my toys and run around the house with my foster siblings.   We all have a great time together.   When I am finally tired from all that playing, I love to sit in my foster mom’s lap to get pets and tummy rubs.  I’m quite the cuddler and will give you lots of kisses.

If you think that I would be a perfect match for your family, please contact my foster mom at seastham1@gmail.com.  She can tell you lots more about me.  Also, please look at my Petfinder page for even more information.

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots and am heartworm negative.

HUCKLEBERRY - I’VE BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:49 pm by Administrator

Huckleberry.JPG

Hello out there!!!  My name is Huckleberry and I am a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen mix or PBGV for short.  I’m a 2 year old male and I weigh about 25 pounds, give or take a pound or two!!  I know I’m not very small and fluffy, but I am up for adoption and ready to find my forever home just like all my foster buddies here at Lone Star.  I’m also a lot cuter than my picture shows – I’m just not very photogenic!!

I love to be around people and am very friendly once I get to know you.  I will give you lots of kisses, if you give me some pets in return!!  I’m a little too big to be a lap dog, but given the opportunity I sure try to get in my foster mom’s lap!!   I found that sitting right next to her is just as good as being in her lap.  I also follow my foster mom around the house all the time and manage to sometimes get right underfoot.  If someone wants to hold me, I roll on my back, look up at them and wait to be picked up.  I just want to be with my people!! I like dogs all right if they are bigger than I am.  No smaller dogs for me!  To tell you the truth, I would REALLY like to be in a home that has no dogs, or maybe just one dog that’s bigger than me.  I play a little with my foster siblings, but I prefer to play with my foster mom and the family!!  Older kids would also be great in my forever home, but an adult only home is just fine too.  I do very well in my crate and am very quiet and relaxed when I am in it.  I eat my meals there and get all of my treats there because sometimes I’m a little possessive of my food.  I don’t mind being in my crate at all.  My crate is my little den and I feel safe there.  I am also learning housebreaking and my foster mom says that so far I am doing quite well.  If you think a PBGV is right for your family, look no further.  I am your guy and I promise that I will love you forever.  Please check out my Petfinder page and also email my foster mom at sherry@pawpawpatch.net for more information.I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots and heartworm negative.

JAX - I’VE BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:11 pm by Administrator

Jax 21.jpg

My name is Jax.  I am a 10 month old male Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix and I am cute, cute, cute!!!  My coat is white and very soft to the touch, and I weigh about 13 pounds or so.
I’m still a puppy and very much a lively boy, so I will need to go to a home where there is someone around to play with me and give me lots of love.  Also, there needs to be another playful young pup in the house to keep me company.  That’s a rule here at Lone Star as they want to make sure that all young pups have a dog-friend to play with!  I’m a little frightened of children and would prefer a home that has all adults or one with kids 16 years and older.

My favorite thing (besides my foster mom of course) is my little pink and white blankie.  I know I’m a boy and shouldn’t really like pink and white, but I just love to carry around that blankie!  I will carry it all over the house and hardly get it out of my sight.   Another thing I like to do is take long walks.  I never seem to get tired and will just go, go, go.   I’m a pretty good snuggler too and will come right up to my foster mom at night while she is watching TV.  I get lots of pets from her and I especially love that.
I am also quite a talker. If one of my toys goes under the coffee table, or I want to play with my foster mom, I will always let her know.  I do a growl-yip sound that my foster mom says is very cute.

If you would like to learn more about me, please check out my Petfinder Page and also please email my foster mom at jmanderson5656@sbcglobal.net   She’ll tell you even MORE good things about me!!!

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots and am heartworm negative.

PINK

Pink2.JPG

My name is Pink and I am the sweetest little Lhasa Apso girl you will ever meet.  I am about 6 years old, have beautiful soft white hair with tan markings, and I weigh about 20 pounds or so (yes, I am a tad bit overweight).   I just need some exercise, like taking long walks and playing fetch with my new forever family, to burn off a few of those extra pounds.

I love my foster dad and my 8 foster siblings very much.  But, I need to find a forever family to call my own.  I follow my foster dad around the house and am particularly happy when he stops to give me tummy rubs and ear scratches.  Those are the best!!  I also like to ride in the car and when we go on walks, I don’t pull my leash or run and jump.  I am a bit food protective, but I don’t snap or bite when someone gets near my food bowl.  I just give a little growl to let them know I’m still eating!!   I am also fully housebroken, know some commands, and everyone says that I am very well-behaved.  I think I am actually a perfect little lady!!

Like I said, I like my other foster siblings, but I would really prefer to be your only princess – oops, I mean dog!  I love to sleep with my foster dad and I snuggle up to him at night.  I also will sit right next to him when he’s watching TV.  And when he comes home at night, I’m right there at the door waiting for him.   I just want to be with my people.

I do have “lazy eye” that my ophthalmologist says was a result of a birth defect.   One of my eyes looks straight ahead and the other looks off to the side.  I am blind in that eye, but my eye that looks straight ahead is perfect.  My foster dad says that I can see a doggie treat in his hand from 100 yards away!

I would love to be your special girl and be your little princess.  I just need someone to love me and take care of me for the rest of my life.  I promise I won’t disappoint you.

If you think you might be interested in learning more about me, please email us.  You can reach us at my personal email address pink@actioncentral.net.   I will make sure my foster dad gets the message.  Also please check out my Petfinder page for even more information about me.

PEREZ - I’VE BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:57 am by Administrator

Perez.JPG

My name is Perez, although I’m best known as “P”, and I am told I am quite a handsome black shih tzu.  I am a male, about 3 years old, and I weigh 13 pounds or so.

I have been living with my foster dad and foster brothers for a while now.  I like my foster dad, but I would REALLY like to find my forever home with a family to call my own.  I am a bit independent, so a family with small children would not be so good for me.  I would probably prefer a home with one or two adults to love me.

I’m a bit of a talker and because I make lots of silly guttural noises, people think I’m a bit grumpy.  I’m really not!!  Actually, I’m very sweet and loving and oh so cute!!!  I’m not really fond of getting my hair combed, although I do have beautiful hair.  That’s when I really talk at my dad – when he’s combing my hair.  I LOVE to be held and will curl up right next to my foster dad on the couch whenever he is there.
I also sleep on the bed with all my other foster siblings.  I like to sleep at my foster dad’s feet, but sometimes I snuggle up next to him when I get the opportunity!!I don’t particularly like to play with my foster siblings.  Like I said, I’m a little independent.  But I do like them and get along well with them.  Most of all I like to play with my foster dad, especially when he throws a toy for me to chase.  I also like to take my toys with me everywhere I go in the house.  One of my favorite things is to perch up on the back of the couch or a chair or even the treadmill!

I do have some ongoing skin and ear problems that I take medication for and my new family will have to continue that.  Also, when someone comes to the door I make sure I bark to let all know that someone has arrived.  As soon as I figure out what’s going on, I stop barking.
If you think you might be interested in learning more about me, please email my foster dad at breeze@shihtzurescue.com.  You can also take a look at my Petfinder page.

TINSEL

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:47 am by Administrator

TinselTurner.jpg

My name is Tinsel and I am a female, 7 year old, very petite Lhasa Apso.  I lived with a family for 7 years of my life.  When they became too busy for me the wonderful folks from Lone Star rescued me.  I was very confused and quite scared when I first arrived at my foster home as I had no idea why my life had turned upside down.  I thought I was a good girl and I just couldn’t believe I was given up.  But, that is behind me and I am ready for a new family to love.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I love my foster mom and always want to be with her.  I prefer to be sitting right next to her when she is watching TV or reading, whether in bed or in her chair.  I also learned that if I flop on my back I will get belly rubs.  When my foster mom stops petting me I talk with her and gently take her hand in my mouth or I pat her with my paw to let her know I don’t want her to stop!!  It took my foster mom a little while to figure out that when I talk (growl) that this is classic Lhasa Apso verbalization!!  It doesn’t mean “Stop” but actually means “Please keep those belly rubs coming!”

I like my kennel and I feel very comfortable in there.  When I first came to live with my foster mom and foster siblings I used to eat in my kennel.  Now when I see Mom getting my food ready, I RUN straight to my kennel, but now I eat my meals right outside my kennel door.  I am fully housebroken and have never had an accident in the house.  I also have never soiled my kennel as I know that’s my little home.  My foster mom took me to be groomed and I got a good report from the groomer who said I was very well-behaved.  I also had my teeth cleaned at the vet and he said I am a very healthy girl.

I have started playing with toys and I usually carry one around the house with me.  If I’m outside, I am VERY protective of my yard and I alert my foster mom to what is happening.  Sometimes if a leaf falls I have to even tell her about that.

I like my foster dog brothers and sisters but I don’t play with them at all.  I would REALLY prefer to be an only dog.  I also think that I would do best in a home without children and where children don’t visit.  Remember, I’m a Lhasa Apso and I have the typical personality of a Lhasa Queen!!  I might be misconstrued as a snippy dog when actually I’m just being a Lhasa.  I would be happiest in a home where my people understand and love the Lhasa Apso breed.

If you think I could fit into your home, please email my foster mom at lhasatzu4u@verizon.net.  Also, please take a look at my Petfinder page for more information.  I promise that I’ll be a good girl for you and love you forever!

JACOB AND DAKOTA

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:08 pm by Administrator

Jacob and Dakota2.jpg

Our names are Jacob and Dakota and we are waiting for our forever homes.  We’d like to tell you a little about ourselves.

JACOB
My name is Jacob and I am fun-loving little guy and a bit of a clown to say the least!  I am a light brown and white shih tzu and am 8-9 years old.  I weigh about 18 pounds.  I am definitely one happy little guy and I show my happiness in lots of ways.  I LOVE everyone and love to play with anyone who will take the time to play with me.  I particularly like older children and will follow them around all day long if I can.  No younger children please.

I also like to play with other dogs.  My favorite thing to do is to walk beside one of my little doggie friends and “bump” into him or her.  This usually ends up with the both of us running and playing together in the back yard.  I like all other pets (even though I sometimes chase the cat), and would do well in a forever home with or without other pets.  When it’s time for my breakfast or dinner, I will do the cutest little bark!!  I particularly like to do this as my foster mom is getting my food ready.  It’s just my way of saying “Thank you for taking care of me!”

Even though I am such a fun-loving guy, I do have a sweet and loving side.  I am a cuddler and I love to be with my foster mom when she’s watching TV, reading, or listening to music.  I am perfectly house-trained also.  Most of all I just love people and want to be with a family to love.

I am altered, up-to-date on all shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

If you are interested in adopting me, please email sunny@lsstar.org.  She will tell you what a great little guy I am.  You can also check out my Petfinder page for more information.

DAKOTA
My name is Dakota and I am one big lovebug.  I am a black male shih tzu, about 10 ½ years old, and I weigh about 18 pounds.  I have been told that I look like a little gentleman in an all black tux.  I am very easy to get along with, and I love to snuggle and cuddle.  Actually, my goal in life is to just make you happy and give you lots of love and attention.

I will stand up and beg for my foster mom to take me with her when she goes to work, shopping, or whatever.  I just LOVE to be with people!!  If you can’t take me with you, I am very content to sleep on my little bed until you come home.  Then I am a really happy little guy!!

I get along with other dogs and cats, but I do prefer smaller dogs that like me rather than bigger ones.  Older children are fine.  When a stranger comes to the house I will bark, but once I know that person is supposed to be there I just figure it’s someone else to love!!  I will sit up when I get a treat, enjoy going on walks, and love to relax around the house.  I am just content to be a part of the family.  I am fully house-trained, very calm, friendly, and LOVING.  As you can see, I am just about the perfect dog!!

I am altered, up-to-date on all shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

Please consider adopting me and bringing me into your family.  You can email sunny@lsstar.org  and she can tell you how you can meet me.  Also, please look at my Petfinder page for more information.  I promise you won’t be disappointed!!

FOUR SPECIAL FLUFFS - ONE OF US HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:17 pm by Administrator

The beginning of a new year is always the time to reflect on the past and look to the future.  Many of our little fluffs have found their forever homes in 2007.  However, there are still many dogs up for adoption, waiting patiently for that special someone to adopt them.   Today this column will focus on four special fluffs who were not adopted in 2007 and who continue to wait for their forever homes.  They are wonderful dogs, as their foster parents will attest, and they deserve a special look.  They are mixed breeds, larger than a typical shih tzu or a lhasa apso, and some aren’t quite as fluffy, but all are special in their own right.  Please consider adopting one of these sweet babies who were overlooked in 2007.

IDAHO AND RUSSET SPUDS

We are Idaho and Russet Spuds, 11 month old Retirever/Lhasa Apso Mix sisters.  We each weigh about 25 pounds and look more like a retriever than a Lhasa Apso, but our mom was a Lhasa mix.  Our siblings have all been adopted and we are still waiting for our forever homes.  Our foster mom says that we are great dogs, well-mannered, and fun to be around.  Idaho loves to play fetch and wants to play, play, play.  She will bring her ball to her foster mom FOREVER for a game of catch!!!  Russet also likes to play, but she prefers to spread her toys all over the house before she finds that special toy to play with.  We both also love the water and enjoy the little swimming pool our foster mom bought for us.  We are good car travelers, are housebroken, and are good with other dogs.  We would love a family to call our own to spend the rest of our lives with.  We would prefer older children in the family rather than younger children as we might be a bit rambunctious for the little ones.

Idaho and Russet are altered, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative.

Please contact our foster mom at Ja.Peck@Tenethealth.com if you are interested in adopting one or both of us.  Idaho’s Petfinder page will give more information about her.  Russet’s Petfinder page will give more information about her.  You can also look up our Fluff of the Week features and learn even a little more about us.  Russet was the featured Fluff of the Week on 7/23/07 and Idaho on 7/30/07.  We promise that you won’t be disappointed if you adopt us.

OSCAR

My name is Oscar and oh what a special man I am.  I’m an 8-9 year old Lhasa Apso/Tibetan Terrier Mix and I weigh about 30 pounds.  Mom calls me her gentle giant for a reason.  For one thing, I’m bigger than my foster siblings, but I am oh so gentle and loving.  She says that I am the perfect dog and she just doesn’t understand why I haven’t found my forever home yet.  I am housetrained and I don’t bark much.  I love to play in the back yard with my foster brothers and sisters and my ideal home would have a yard for me to run.  I would love to have a family with older children to call my own, but I think I would be happy living with a couple, a single person, or a senior.  I just need someone to love.   Whoever adopts me needs to continue my eye medication as I have a cloudy eye and I can’t see very well out of it.  This doesn’t bother me in the least and I can run and play with the best of them.  I accept my eye drops like a gentleman and I promise I won’t give you any trouble.

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots, and heartworm negative.

If you would like to hear more about me, please contact my foster mom at mada51@sbcglobal.net.  She’ll be more than happy to tell you what a great dog I am.  Also, please check out my Petfinder page and take a look at my Fluff of the Week feature posted on 11/30/07.

PINOCCHIO

My name is Pinocchio and I am a Lhasa Apso/Dandie Dinmont Terrier Mix.  I am about 4-5 years old and I weigh about 18 pounds.  I think my foster mom named me Pinnochio because I have quite the long nose.  Better to sniff things with if I do say so myself!!  I can sniff-out my foster siblings left-over chew bones in nothing flat!!   My tongue hangs out a bit as I have an overbite.  My foster mom says that my cute little tongue AND my long eyelashes, make me quite the handsome lad.  She also says that I am very sweet and that’s definitely a plus!!

I will follow my foster mom wherever she goes and I love to curl up next to her when she is relaxing.  I just want to be around my people.  I would love a forever home where there would just be someone to love.  Older children would be great too and other dogs as I do get along well with my foster brothers and sisters.  My foster mom says that I am very good and that I would not disappoint my new forever family.  I am housetrained and I also really enjoy riding in the car.

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

If you would like more information about me, please contact my foster mom at lleazure@verizon.net.  You can also look at my Petfinder page and check out my Fluff of the Week feature that was posted on 6/18/07.  Please consider adopting me in 2008.

NADJA

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:23 am by Administrator

Nadja.jpg

My name is Nadja and I am one lucky little girl.  I was rescued from a puppy mill with a few other lucky little fluffs.  I now live in a wonderful foster home and am learning how to be a shih tzu!!  My foster mom says that I am getting more and more confident each day.  I am still a little shy, but once I warm up to you, I am a cuddlebug.  I love to be held like a little baby and I will snuggle and cuddle away.  I am just so happy to be in a home and not in that horrible puppy mill.  Now I hope that I can find a forever home soon.  I love my foster mom and my foster siblings, but I know that there is a special forever home waiting for me.

Let me tell you a little about myself.  I am about 8-10 years old, but I am very young at heart.  And you know shih tzus live a long life.  I love to play with toys and I will play and play.  I never knew what a toy was, so this is something very special to me.  When I get tired of playing, I go to MY OWN BED!!!  That’s even more special!  I sit in my little bed and watch all my foster siblings, until I get tired, then I doze off and take a snooze.  I have started socializing with my foster siblings and I now run and race with them outside.  It’s just so great to have a yard to run in!!

I am doing very well with housebreaking and my foster mom is quite proud of me.  I sleep in my bed or my crate all night long right next to my foster mom’s bed.  I am a good girl and sleep the night through.  I let my foster mom know when I have to go out in the morning and I also let her know when I’ve finished outside and want to come in.

I am a good eater and I don’t beg for food.  When my foster mom gives me a little treat I take it ever so gently from her and then I savor it.  Treats are also new to me and I’ve decided that I like them!!!

I have a shrunken eye and we are not sure of why I have that.  It doesn’t bother me in the least, but I do have to have eye drops put in twice a day.  I’m learning that has to be done, but to be honest with you, I’m not too crazy about the drops.  I will learn though, as I know it’s good for me and definitely a necessity.  So, if someone is interested in adopting me that person needs to know that I will have to continue my eye medication.

I would love to find my forever home.  If you think I could fit into your family, please contact my foster mom at maday0151@yahoo.com.  You can also get some more information about me on my Petfinder page.  Also, look at the video on my page of how I was rescued from the puppy mill.  I would love to be your best friend, cuddle with you, and just love you.  Please consider taking me into your home.

I am altered, up-to-date on all my shots, and am heartworm negative.
