Say hello to Celina Barnes and her six babies

As usual, this story starts with an email – from a shelter north of Dallas.  It went something like this….

I am with the xxxxx Shelter. We are a new facility that does only stray holds, no adoptions. The SPCA comes over once a day and will take all of the animals that have not been claimed by their owner that they feel are adoptable. At the present time we have a little Lhasa that has 6 pups. The SPCA will not take her because of the pups. We need to find a home for them or they will be euthanized. If you can help in any way please contact me as soon as possible.

Thankfully, we have a wonderful foster mom that just LOVES little puppies and is always up for fostering babies.  So, a brief email to her, and this momma and puppies were on the way to the DFW area!

On Monday, Oct 2, 2006, this gorgeous momma lhasa girl and her babies became wards of Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue, thanks to foster mom Ja.

The first real message came on Friday, along with some adorable pictures.  The update was

They are already walking – not very steady but walking nontheless.  They want to eat dry food.  They have started loving on one another.  and grooming each other.  I just can’t believe it.  This weekend they all get names thanks to those that provided me with possibilities.  I have already named on – the fawn female is Timber Barns.  Jay has named one of the black ones Barney Barns.  Am thinking about naming the white one Whitie but naming a black one White would be rather funny.I think they brought in a bunch of ants as they are always ants around their kennel and I didn’t have ants before.

Stay tuned for more information and pictures.

Update: Just so you all know, I took Momma to the vet today – he said that her extra large “bossoms” are fine and that her drinking 8 cups of water a day is what she needs to drink to produce all that milk. She is heartworm negative and does not have diabetis. She got her rabies shot today and the vet suggested that I give her all other shots today as she will pass that on, to a very small degree, in her milk which will help the babies. The babies are all very healthy. The vet estimates their birth date at 9/20 and said I should start feeding them in a week and half (gosh they have already been eating canned puppy food but the vet told me not to let Celina eat canned food in front of the puppies as he doesn’t want them eating it yet). The vet and his wife think they are mixed with Australian sheepdog so I need to buy lots of frisbies (Jay will like that). I am checking into buying a puppy agility course for them if it isn’t too expensive. I’ll have all of them named by tomorrow and will send the list and their pictures.
